Get Messy | Season of Lists 2 | Spiritual Connections

This was a powerful week for me in the 2nd week of Get Messy Lists. Each of the prompts elicited a soul connection of some sort. When I look at each page now, I am empowered!

The first prompt I tackled was super powers I’d like to have. Easy peasy: Communicating with animals and being an incredible and inspiring artist touching many lives. Artists represented are Leonardo DaVinci, Paul Klee, Gustav Klimt and Vjatseslav Mjod.

The next list prompt is Loves of my Life, and I also used one of the art prompts, list on something unusual. The above prompt and this one are visual lists, no words beyond the subject.

I used another art prompt for this next list”When I grow up”: an animal letters font! It is perfect for my answer.

The prompt “I want to go…” invites physical places. I took it in another direction (and I used the art prompt to use my favorite font).

And I used the classic list for the last one. As I wrote this list I realized how profoundly I’ve changed in the past 10 years. Wow!

I will look at this journal and these lists over and over for years and be inspired with each viewing. What treasures an art journal can hold. If you journal in any way, do you journal in an inspiring way?

Have a wonderful weekend my friends! And as always, thank you so much for tuning in and witnessing my creative growth as an artist.

Get Messy Art Journal is an art journaling program that is a school, art playground and family. We are a group of like minded art journalers who have come together under this art form to learn, share, practice our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. Our community values consistent creating, encouragement and support and trying new things. We would love to have you join us as a member of Get Messy Art Journal.

What exactly is art journaling?

Ambiguous answer: whatever you want it to be! More specific answer: Art journaling is a notebook that you fill with drawings, paintings, thoughts, words, lyrics, photos, magazine cutouts and random ephemera from your life and events. It can be where you practice art techniques or sketch out big projects. It can be your journal where all things creative + all things emotional intersect. You can put in pretty things you find and want to keep or it can be where you collect and process through your deepest, darkest thoughts. It is where art and journaling meet. 3/52 Portraits – Lost Love

It’s week 3 of 52 weekly portraits …

What do I miss from my past?

I mourn the ability to dance with freedom and grace as I once could. Years of arthritis, a hip replacement and now a wanky back hobble me to the ground when I used to be able to fly.

I wrote the above intro 2 days ago. While I was writing the rest of this post today, it occurred to me that there is deeper significance to this image. When I was 22, and in college, I played the part of Peter Pan in the University of Colorado’s musical of that name. I was even strapped up in a harness and lifted to fly around the stage. Flying in for a curtain call to a standing ovation was one of the peak experiences of my life.

It is interesting that I used my shadow for the portrait of my mourned ability. Do you remember that Peter Pan came into Wendy’s room looking for his shadow? … the silly thing had become detached somehow. He tried putting it back on with soap among other things but it was Wendy’s common sense and needle and thread that finally re-attached it.

Sobs come as I write this because I realize I have ‘grown up’ like Wendy… all common sense and choosing reality over Neverland, where dreams are born.  And like Wendy, I have lost the ability to fly.

This is a big symbolic realization for me and I don’t think I will find a resolution as I am writing this post. I want to dance again, and allow my body to move freely with the wind. Will I find some fairy dust when I return to the fairy circle on our ranch to help me? Will I shed all the dark and heavy energy stuck to my emotional and physical bodies? Will I allow myself to let go and let Goddess?

I think I will somehow, since I am on the right path… and of course clapping my hands because I DO believe in fairies.

We Have Come to be Danced

tinker bell

Deliciously dancing me at age 14.

We have come to be danced
not the pretty dance
not the pretty pretty, pick me, pick me dance
but the claw our way back into the belly
of the sacred, sensual animal dance
the unhinged, unplugged, cat is out of its box dance
the holding the precious moment in the palms
of our hands and feet dance

We have come to be danced
not the jiffy booby, shake your booty for him dance
but the wring the sadness from our skin dance
the blow the chip off our shoulder dance
the slap the apology from our posture dance

We have come to be danced
not the monkey see, monkey do dance
one, two dance like you
one two three, dance like me dance
but the grave robber, tomb stalker
tearing scabs & scars open dance
the rub the rhythm raw against our souls dance

WE have come to be danced
not the nice invisible, self conscious shuffle
but the matted hair flying, voodoo mama
shaman shakin’ ancient bones dance
the strip us from our casings, return our wings
sharpen our claws & tongues dance
the shed dead cells and slip into
the luminous skin of love dance

We have come to be danced
not the hold our breath and wallow in the shallow end of the floor dance
but the meeting of the trinity: the body, breath & beat dance
the shout hallelujah from the top of our thighs dance
the mother may I?
yes you may take 10 giant leaps dance
the Olly Olly Oxen Free Free Free dance
the everyone can come to our heaven dance

We have come to be danced
where the kingdom’s collide
in the cathedral of flesh
to burn back into the light
to unravel, to play, to fly, to pray
to root in skin sanctuary
We have come to be danced
WE HAVE COME

About Being Powerless

I need to make sure I have a strong connection to my Source or I will lose power and eventually run down my batteries.

I learned this distressing metaphorical lesson in powerlessness from Universe this week when I was literally without power in my motor home for three days…

Art Journal Noob

I saw an art journal page on Instagram at the beginning of January. I loved the idea so I made an art journal page.

Art Page Number One... #onelittleword for me for 2016... Blossom

Art Page Number One… #onelittleword for me for 2016… Blossom

Then I made six more art journal pages and shared them on Instagram. And then I joined an online art journaling group, Get Messy Art Journal… and a new season of inspiration and expression starts with them on Monday, Feb 1. It’s been a whirlwind romance!

As part of the Get Messy group, I’ll post my weekly projects on Fridays. As today is Friday I’m posting what I’ve done on my own this month just experimenting.

Then I learned about #blackoutpoetry.

For my second one I learned about #blackoutpoetry.

And it's awesome inverse colors!

Not fun to live with this word for days, but really like the outcome.

This last one I made this week. Hubby had just left to go out-of-town for work for three days… and the power went off in our motorhome… (long story but basically a knock on the head from Spirit)  I did rig up one extension cord for my little heater and a work light for those three days. I did most of this double page during the day when I could tell what color I was using! Anyway, I was feeling distraught that first day and decided to find ’59 rich wonderful words’ that were about me. It ended up all over the place in energy… it has more than my RV did!

I’m excited to begin more guided art journaling work next week. It helps to have a focus and a deadline, not to mention some tutorials!

See you later friends and have a good weekend!

take care
