Get Messy | Season of Lists 3| Half Way!

Goodness, I just realized after this week of Get Messy Lists, we are half way through the season! I don’t really have an over-riding theme for this week. I did follow all the list prompts and four of the five art prompts. Here are the pages, quick and easy. In fairness to Get Messy Art Journal, I’m not going to officially reveal the prompts (you can guess tho!)

Call me... (list) Write on photo (art)

Things that are magic (list)

Right now... (list), Write list in paint (art) ok... it was a brush pen and I only used it on part of the page...

I want to try (list), Use as many synonyms as you can (art)

I’m looking forward to next week’s Get Messy Art Journal prompts! I’m really enjoying working with the journal I made just for the season.

Do you have a fave list from above? Do you relate to any of them? Comment below if you’d like to know more about any of my lists… I didn’t go into detail this week!

Have a wonderful weekend my friends! And as always, thank you so much for tuning in and witnessing my creative growth as an artist.

Get Messy Art Journal is an art journaling program that is a school, art playground and family. We are a group of like minded art journalers who have come together under this art form to learn, share, practice our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. Our community values consistent creating, encouragement and support and trying new things. We would love to have you join us as a member of Get Messy Art Journal.

What exactly is art journaling?

Ambiguous answer: whatever you want it to be! More specific answer: Art journaling is a notebook that you fill with drawings, paintings, thoughts, words, lyrics, photos, magazine cutouts and random ephemera from your life and events. It can be where you practice art techniques or sketch out big projects. It can be your journal where all things creative + all things emotional intersect. You can put in pretty things you find and want to keep or it can be where you collect and process through your deepest, darkest thoughts. It is where art and journaling meet. Get Messy | Season of Lists 1 | All Over the Map

It’s a new season of Get Messy Art Journal! This season is the Season of Lists. Six weeks of 5 list prompts and 5 art prompts to dig into. I will tell you I am not a fan of listing. BUT I am a fan of creativity, so I embrace this season as a time to apply my creativity and make listing FUN!

To start it off I made my art journal from scratch. I found a fantastic YouTube video by Ephemera’s Garden on how to pamphlet bind a book. I took one of the bazillion boxes we have for the cover. I love the remaining box rip that happened when I unzipped the box. I covered it with fabric. The bird/bright green accent on the front is a patterned paper.

I decided to extra challenge myself and make some of the pages of the book already full of images. So I bought a gorgeous set of journal pages from Ephemera’s Garden on ETSY. Here is the inside cover of the book.

I did put in blank pages so I wasn’t restricted on every page tho. I am a great fan of texture so my pages are all sizes and textures from tracing paper to coffee stained sketchbook pages to colored card-stock. I even have a few greeting cards in there.

Now that I’m done patting myself on the back for such a cool handmade journal, let’s see how well I listed using it! Here are my responses to all five list prompts for the week (using three of the art prompts).

I have to admit, that last one cracked me up (prompt was mysteries to explore). I used the ComicLife program I have on my computer… creativity remember? 😉 As you can see, I am not going to have a consistent style through the book, I’m all over the map. Hey, maybe there will even be a map prompt!

Are any of you list makers? I have to admit these prompts, like “Lessons Learned” are a lot more fun than a grocery list or weekly chore list… 😀 .

Have a wonderful weekend my friends! And as always, thank you so much for tuning in and witnessing my creative growth as an artist.

7/52 Portraits – Love of My Life

It’s week 7 of 52 weekly portraits. The subject? The love of my life!

my love

It’s my goofy motorcycle riding engineer. My Prince Charming in overalls. My kind, generous, irreverent husband Tim.

We met on Chemistry.com. On our second date Tim took me on my first motorcycle ride… at a stop sign on the ride I desperately asked if there was booze where we were going… we didn’t have another date for 2 years… 😉 I invite you to read the post Biker Chick which I wrote in 2013 that highlights our early romance.

This is a typical photo of us… why have a serious portrait when we can be the goofy kids we truly are?

I’m so glad you stopped by. Serious portrait? Goofy portrait? or something in between for you and your sweetie?

2/52 – Truth Seeker

Here is my 2nd of 52 weekly portraits … Show my super power.

This was a difficult prompt for me… The assignment wasn’t to illustrate the power I’d LIKE to have, but one that I already have (to the nth degree because I’ve been bitten by a radioactive spider). I had to ask my BFF Rebecca to help me figure out my super power. Here is what she wrote:

You have the White* personality powers of calmness and deeply listening. You have the Sag ability to see the truth and express it soundly and clearly (and kindly) especially when someone (like Yellow* me) is having a meltdown. You truly are the seeker of truth and even when you think you have found the truth you still question it in detail and find the truth of the truth…..until you see another truth. (*From the Color Code.)

Your philosophies are very deep and you are able to express them clearly.  To the point of making me cry.  In a good way.  So “inspiring” is good but you’re more than that.  It goes deeper and I can’t find the word to describe the feeling I have about it. It’s the truth-seeking you do and how you bring it into the light for others to see.

truth seeker3So I decided my super power is Truth Seeker. In this photo I’m looking to the light and finding the truth in my heart. That IS a toy bow… so go ahead and laugh as I portray the Sag archer with a toy… not sure how many targets I could hit with that! But Source truly enjoys a good laugh.

What super power would I like to have? Communication with Mother Earth and her children… talk with the animals and trees, speak to the weather, ask the water to run… you get the picture. Oh, and I can fly.

What super power would you like to have? And more puzzling, what super power do you already have that you might not have given that status?
