It’s a new season of Get Messy Art Journal! This season is the Season of Lists. Six weeks of 5 list prompts and 5 art prompts to dig into. I will tell you I am not a fan of listing. BUT I am a fan of creativity, so I embrace this season as a time to apply my creativity and make listing FUN!
To start it off I made my art journal from scratch. I found a fantastic YouTube video by Ephemera’s Garden on how to pamphlet bind a book. I took one of the bazillion boxes we have for the cover. I love the remaining box rip that happened when I unzipped the box. I covered it with fabric. The bird/bright green accent on the front is a patterned paper.
I decided to extra challenge myself and make some of the pages of the book already full of images. So I bought a gorgeous set of journal pages from Ephemera’s Garden on ETSY. Here is the inside cover of the book.
I did put in blank pages so I wasn’t restricted on every page tho. I am a great fan of texture so my pages are all sizes and textures from tracing paper to coffee stained sketchbook pages to colored card-stock. I even have a few greeting cards in there.
Now that I’m done patting myself on the back for such a cool handmade journal, let’s see how well I listed using it! Here are my responses to all five list prompts for the week (using three of the art prompts).
I have to admit, that last one cracked me up (prompt was mysteries to explore). I used the ComicLife program I have on my computer… creativity remember? 😉 As you can see, I am not going to have a consistent style through the book, I’m all over the map. Hey, maybe there will even be a map prompt!
Are any of you list makers? I have to admit these prompts, like “Lessons Learned” are a lot more fun than a grocery list or weekly chore list… 😀 .
Have a wonderful weekend my friends! And as always, thank you so much for tuning in and witnessing my creative growth as an artist.

What exactly is art journaling?
Ambiguous answer: whatever you want it to be! More specific answer: Art journaling is a notebook that you fill with drawings, paintings, thoughts, words, lyrics, photos, magazine cutouts and random ephemera from your life and events. It can be where you practice art techniques or sketch out big projects. It can be your journal where all things creative + all things emotional intersect. You can put in pretty things you find and want to keep or it can be where you collect and process through your deepest, darkest thoughts. It is where art and journaling meet.
